About the public portal
Share a whole space with readers outside Elium, without an account.
Updated on 7 October 2026
What a portal is
Until now, reading knowledge written in Elium required an Elium account. Some of what you write is meant for people who will never have one: customers, partners, members of the public. The public portal gives them a page where they can read a selection of your articles without signing in.
A portal is an external space: a space created with the option "Allow external access". Instead of tabs, it is organised in sections and folders, like a help centre or a product documentation. You write articles in it with the usual editor, and every Elium rule still applies: drafts, approval, validity dates, statistics. Publishing to the portal never grants more rights than writing inside the space. Each portal shows the content of one space only.
An article shown in the portal is not a copy. It is the same article, made visible to a wider audience. When you edit it, the public page changes at the same time.
What the beta does not do yet
The beta has these limits:
-
No access control for readers. A portal is fully public. Restricting it to an identified audience, such as partners, will come later.
-
A simple layout. Visual customisation of the portal is the next planned step.
