About Tags

Updated over 2 weeks ago

An Article tag is a term or set of terms applied to an Article or to a profile. When used correctly, it serves as an effective sorting and filtering mechanism that facilitates access to relevant information.

Tags can perform several important tasks:

  • Utilize standardized and harmonized vocabulary to qualify the object or subject of the Article

  • Indicate the value of usage or the nature of the Article (e.g., "competitive intelligence", "only in-house dissemination", etc.)

  • Search for information that the search engine may not detect (e.g., content language)

  • Act as a trigger for targeted dissemination, whether through individual alerts or shared alerts

  • Support the creation of filtered and dynamic views in the space tabs

Moreover, since tags are collective and cross-functional across spaces (with exceptions defined by the administrator), they optimize global searching across the spaces.

Folders versus Tags

Navigating or selecting using combined tags offers a clever alternative to hierarchical classification.

Tree-Structured Folders

  • Fixed, hierarchical tree structure

  • Single point of entry

Tags

  • Flat and dynamic structure

  • As many entry points as there are tags

Tags versus folders

When Should You Tag?

Tagging typically occurs when the user shares an Article (file, web page, Article, etc.), as it is one of the steps suggested when adding content. However, tagging can also be applied retrospectively.

📝 Notes
