Gardening tags is a common practice in Elium. It involves maintaining a coherent and qualitative category structure within the platform.
From the Administration Interface
Add Several Tags
If you need to enter multiple tags at once, you can select the option "Add several tags." This is a more efficient way to add tags. Simply list one tag per line and save.
Editing Tag Relations
Synonymous tags belonging to the same category can be associated with each other. Both tags will be considered during a search filtered by either one.
For example, if a user searches for the 'sodium chloride' tag, the system will also suggest articles tagged with 'NaCl', provided that the administrator has established a relation between these two tags.
Editing Hashtag Settings
By default, all users can create tags. However, this can become overwhelming depending on the size of your platform. To effectively manage your tags, you may want to restrict tag creation to a minimum user role: Guest, Contributor, Coordinator, or Administrator.
Editing Tags
Through this option, you can perform several operations:
Rename a tag
Translate it
Move it to another category
💡 Idea
If you focus on limited categories, it is good practice to regularly review the list of tags that do not belong to any category and sort these tags based on the number of articles. A frequently used tag may be moved to another category.
Merging Tags
You can delete a defined tag in favor of another. The tag you specify will automatically be attached to the articles that were associated with the initial tag. This initial tag will be permanently deleted.
For example, if I want to merge the 'knowledge plaza' tag with the 'Elium' tag, I click on the 'Merge' option next to the 'knowledge plaza' tag and indicate the 'Elium' tag as the replacement.
Deleting Tags
Every tag can be deleted. The system will notify you if you attempt to delete a tag that is in use in:
Alerts
Contribution email addresses
Tabs of the space
Templates
In the Users' Interface
Coordinators and administrators have the ability to withdraw tags attached to articles. This operation takes place from the tagging window. It is important to note that these tags are withdrawn but not deleted from the system.
